The Peter Band - Dancing, Drumming, Safari and Swahili - Singapore to Kenya

Leader of the Peter Band, Peter Orwa, spent five years in Japan as a professional boxer before becoming a musician and performer. He has traveled the world performing as a dancer and singer, and held workshops in African dance, drumming and Swahili while onboard.

Following an onboard introduction to the issue of poaching Kenya's great animals, the multi-talented guest educator continued entertaining and sharing his knowledge of Kenya with Peace Boat participants, leading a study tour of the his homeland's stunning yet endangered wildlife.

Middle-of-the-Ocean Basketball Tournament - April 18, 2004

Some of the younger participants onboard organize a day-long basketball tournament on the sports deck under a blazing sun while we pass through the Bay of Bengal.

Morning Karate - April 19, 2004

Participant and Karate 'Sensei' Igarashii-san takes a foot in the stomach while instructing a young student on kicking technique. Igarashii-sensei teaches Karate every morning before breakfast, and a self-defence class every afternoon, drawing a wide range of participants to the popular classes.
