Salsa Night
Participants getting to grips with salsa steps
With Europe under their belts, passengers'sights were set firmly on the New World by the start of salsa lessons led by International Student Pili and interpreter Rina. Starting with the basic steps, the enthusiasm of the teachers and heat of the Latin rhythms soon had participants proficient in a string of moves. Under the sunny skies of the Atlantic, the popular daily workshops culminated in a Salsa Night featuring projected images of the Buena Vista Social Club, tasty Mexican food served up by the Yatai stall, Cafe Clandestino's Ichiro on guitar and, of course, salsa! A small but committed group, who had perfected a dazzling demonstration after only days of practice, set the tone for the evening, to be joined by other participants. Soon, even those who had never salsa-ed before grabbed a partner and got caught up in the rhythms. The music, food and excitement about experiencing the real thing on Cuban soil had people dancing 'til they dropped.
