Participants enjoying home style hospitality
in Mostar
The Global English Training Program took 46 participants
and five teachers to Mostar for an overnight home stay, the second
of five home stay programs scheduled for the 35th global voyage. Participants
set off for Mostar on the second and third days of our time in Croatia,
crossing into Bosnia-Herzegovina. The program began with a walking
tour of the city and cultural exchange at the Pavarotti Music Center
(www.pavarottimusiccenter.com) with staff, students and members of
the NGO Mladi Most (www.mladi-most.org). Participants and staff then
split into small groups and headed off with various home stay families.
The GET group on tour through Mostar drew more
than a little attention from locals
The home stay experience varies widely from person
to person, but everyone rose to the challenge of communicating in
English with their hosts. All participants come away with an experience
few others will ever have, and all enjoyed the warm hospitality of
the local people.

So after three good days we depart Dubrovnik for
Tripoli, Libya. The old city of Dubrovnik, the scarred beauty of Mostar,
the food and the Adriatic Sea will long remain strong impressions
in participants' memories. Here we leave behind Dr. Clem McCartney
who will return to Northern Ireland. His time onboard and contribution
to the IS program and participants' understanding of peace and conflict
resolution is much appreciated and we look forward to his next visit.
