| Peace Boat's 70th Global Voyage departed from Japan on August 2, 2010 to visit 20 ports in 18 countries around the world, through Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe and Latin America. This voyage will feature Peace Boat's first visit to Nicaragua since its first global voyage in 1990, where a peace festival and a range of exchange and study programmes will be organised, and medical relief goods will be delivered. Another highlight of the voyage will be the first ever "Global School" onboard Peace Boat, where Japanese youth experiencing social difficulties including hikikomori will participate in workshops on communication and other social skills, learning to celebrate diversity as seen throughout their global voyage. The voyage will return to Japan on October 20, 2010. |

Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega recently awarded the country's highest distinction, the Ruben Dario Cultural Order of Independence, to two survivors of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and the director of Peace Boat. Hibakusha (atomic bomb survivors) Sasamori Shigeko and Watanabe Junko, both of whom lost loved ones after Hiroshima was bombed in 1945, received the award for their tireless advocacy for a nuclear weapon free world. Both were traveling onboard Peace Boat's 70th Global Voyage to share their testimonies with others around the world as part of the "Global Voyage for a Nuclear-free World: Peace Boat Hibakusha Project." Along with the two survivors, Peace Boat Co-FOunder and Director Yoshioka Tatsuya was also presented with the same award for his dedication to global peace. >>read more |
