Participants onboard the 69th voyage celebrated two months at sea with a festival. Festivities began with a series of dances under the sun as Peace Boat sailed from Scandinavia towards Dublin.

Dozens of people joined the delegation of atomic bomb survivors onboard as part of the “Global Voyage for a Nuclear-Free World – Peace Boat Hibakusha Project” to sing songs calling for the abolition of nuclear weapons. They fastened paper cranes to their heads as a symbol of the struggle for peace.
Regular workshops and events are held by participants themselves to teach each other new skills such as ballroom dancing, flamenco and salsa. The festival was an opportunity for many to show what they have learnt during the voyage.
The festival was also used to raise money for various projects including the Peace Boat Mine Abolition Campaign (P-MAC), working to remove landmines from Cambodia. More than $700 USD has been raised for this cause during the voyage so far.
A key aspect of Peace Boat voyages is learning about different cultures in an interactive manner. There was a strong Pacific theme with a group of participants playing ukuleles and another performing a traditional dance from the region.
Participants are learning more new skills as they travel to Latin America. Some of the activities include learning juggling from professional entertainers and playing instruments with the Venezuelan Youth Orchestra.
