The 103-day journey around the world is absolutely packed with events, memories and special connections. As SS The Oceanic navigated its way through the final leg of the 68th Global Voyage, participants finished up their onboard-activities and prepared for life after Peace Boat.

The crew of SS The Oceanic work incredibly hard to make the voyage participants feel at home. For days, volunteer teacher Meme Watanabe organised for participants to sign cards of thanks for the more than 300 crew members.

About one-third of the ship’s crew are from Indonesia. Dozens of them graciously performed traditional dances – including the Kecak (pictured). Because the crew members are such an important part of the participants’ daily lives, often striking up friendships, the pool deck was standing-room only for the spectacular performance.

Peace Boat participants aren’t passengers on a cruise ship: they’re a community. Together, they live in and share a unique experience that’s almost incomparable. Now that the voyage had finished circumnavigating the globe – sailing more than 56,000 km – many participants gathered on the top deck for a brilliant red sunrise and to snap a shot of a familiar site, while saying tadaima (We’re back!).

The Peace Boat staff and volunteers, who helped guide participants on their around-the-world adventure, bid a fond farewell to the onboard community, gathered in park near the Port of Yokohama to celebrate a job well done.
