62nd Voyage Web Reporter Profile – Brami Jegan |
|
|
Brami Jegan’s interest in working as Web Reporter on Peace Boat is the next step in a journey that started several years ago.
A visit to her birth place of Northern Sri Lanka in 2002 gave Brami her first glimpse of a community suffering from 20-years of civil war.
The tears, laughter and stories she shared with the people she met sealed a personal commitment to help those who are less fortunate, or victims of injustice.
She has since completed postgraduate studies in Politics and Journalism and has been working as a radio news journalist in Australia, and volunteers her spare time as a writer, fund raiser and advocate for a variety of issues.
Brami hopes the 62nd voyage of Peace Boat will take her one step closer to understanding how she can help to bring about change within individuals that will lead to a world free from war and suffering.
She hopes to do this through the people she meets, the knowledge she acquires and the communities the voyage will embrace. To Brami, Peace Boat is an opportunity to be part of a compassionate group of individuals willing to rise above ignorance and indifference, and give voice to those who aim for peace and justice.
History will have to record that the greatest tragedy of this period of social transition was not the strident clamour of the bad people, but the appalling silence of the good people - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. |
