58th Voyage – Web Reporter Profile |

After just seven days in Japan, Simon Davis will be joining the 58th Peace Boat voyage as the onboard web reporter. Coming directly from the UK, he is quickly trying to learn Japanese and is wary of anyone who refers to themselves in the third person.
Born in Coventry, England – a city destroyed during World War II – Simon can appreciate the damaging effects of conflict. He has been strongly influenced by Coventry’s attempts to build a culture of peace and reconciliation by building international links with those who also suffered during this period, including the city of Dresden, Germany.
His interest in international issues and global relations led him to study geography at the University of Oxford in 2001. As a student, Simon also became heavily involved with human rights organisation Amnesty International, working as a PR representative and President for the University’s group.
In 2004, he went on to study photography for a year and gain photo-journalist experience with his local newspaper, the Coventry Evening Telegraph. Since then, Simon has continued to support peace and sustainable development through his position as Communications Assistant at Education Action – a non-governmental organization which works with war-torn communities to help rebuild lives through education.
Through his experience in web writing and photography, Simon will put his skills to use over the voyage to give a voice to peace activists across the world. |
