56th Global Voyage Departure Ceremony – Peace Messengers Set Sail |

At noon on February 25, 2007, Peace Boat's 56th Global Peace Voyage departed from Yokohama port, all participants were excited with anticipation for what was to come on their 100 day journey together. During the opening ceremony speech in Yokohama, guest speakers Mr. Dennis Awori, the Ambassador to Kenya, and the Ambassador to Venezuela, Mr. Seiko Ishikawa praised Peace Boat’s efforts and commended the in port activities carried out in their respective countries. On this voyage, through pre-departure campaigns undertaken by Peace Boat’s project groups, there will be a delivery of 1,000 books for a library and support goods of wheelchairs to Eritrea. In Galapagos there will be a sustainability project for the regeneration of indigenous plants. |

| A final goodbye to Japan at Kobe Port as Peace Boat sets sail |
After a stop in Kobe on February 26 to welcome passengers from Western Japan, with all 600 participants onboard, the ship set sail towards its first destination, Keelung, Taiwan. The mostly Japanese participants, aged between 13 and 86, come from a variety of backgrounds and bring with them a wide range of experiences to life onboard. They are joined by an international group of volunteer language instructors teaching English and Spanish, a team of interpreters assisting in communication onboard and guest speakers hailing from Viet Nam, Taiwan and Japan. |

A group of young International Students from countries such as Sri Lanka, Israel, Palestine, Serbia and Bosnia will join part of the voyage to participate in workshops and forums that address current issues in their region as they work towards a peaceful coexistence. In port, Peace Boat integrates its onboard activities with education and exchange programmes organized with partner organizations. |

The themes of the education programmes onboard the 56th Global Voyage will include:
- Studying the past to create a peaceful future – in particular creating peace in post conflict nations which includes a visit to Croatia.
- The abolishment of landmines incorporating a study tour to Cambodia for Global University students.
- Land sustainability - environmental issues and protection efforts in Alaska.
- Latin America - an alternative model to a global economy.
Our programmes will be led by guest educators including academics, writers, NGO activists, indigenous community guests, entertainers and field experts. In addition to special guest presentations, participants onboard have an opportunity to organize events to showcase their talents, share their knowledge and interests with the onboard community. |

| Sung-Kong-Hoe students from Seoul, South Korea onboard as part of the Global University programme |
Four students from the Sung-Kong-Hoe University in Korea, as part of the Global University programme will be onboard for the duration of the voyage as part of a counter-partner programme between Peace Boat and the university. This is the fifth year students have received this academic scholarship to cultivate cultural exchanges between Korea and Japan. The 56th Global voyage is a continuation of Peace Boat's commitment to bring a diverse group of people together under the common goal of peace. |
