February 26, 2007 56th Voyage Web Reporter Profile

After completing a Journalism degree in Melbourne, Australia, Katherine Pham Do set off backpacking around the globe and has had itchy feet ever since. Katherine had short stints working as a director, producer and writer of documentaries for a cable television station, a radio announcer and a Producer’s Assistant for making television commercials before surrendering to the lure of living overseas.

In 2002, Katherine headed to Japan where she has been residing and working as a senior high school teacher in Yokohama and works part time as a freelance writer/photographer for various newspapers and magazines both in Japan and overseas specializing in art, culture and travel stories. She recently updated the Where to Eat and Side Trips chapters for the 2nd edition of Fodor’s Tokyo.

Katherine’s interest in human rights and community development lead to volunteering and fund raising activities at Tokyo branches of organizations such as Amnesty International, Oxfam, Tokyo Life Line and Second Harvest. She will be joining Peace Boat's 56th Global Voyage as the web reporter where she can use media to report on activist work around the world and help deliver messages of peace through words and pictures.
