Peace Boat passed through the Suez Canal between the African and European legs of the Global Voyage. The Suez Canal is 163 kilometers long and 300 meters wide at its narrowest point, and runs between Egypt's Port Said on the Mediterranean Sea and Suez on the Red Sea. |

Eduardo Rothe from TeleSUR, a television station based out of Venezuela, joined Peace Boat from Spain to Venezuela. TeleSUR positions itself as an alternative to large media conglomerates like CNN, adopting the slogan “News from the South.” Onboard Mr Rothe gave talks on the Bolivarian Revolution and how media, particularly TeleSUR dubbed 'El Jazeera' in reference to the Arabic news channel Al Jazeera, collaborates on programme production with other Central and South American nations to create the ‘true face of Latin America’. |

The Panama Canal is a major water gateway that connects the Atlantic and Pacific oceans and crosses through the Isthmus of Panama and Central America. Construction of the canal was one of the largest and most difficult engineering projects ever undertaken, and on May 4 Peace Boat passed through the canal en route to El Salvador. |

On a hot summer's day, Peace Boat participants were divided into four teams according to their season of birth to participate in a Sports Festival. Competitive activities included a three-legged race, quizzes and a tug-of-war, and points were also awarded for best team spirit and most original cheer. |

Earth Day was celebrated onboard with a day of events including a recycled goods flea market, hemp workshops, interactive art projects, theater plays and many live concerts and chat sessions on sustainable living. |

On April 29, Peace Boat collaborated with many of its Venezuelan counterpartners to hold a joint Peace Festival by the port of La Guaira. Many participants and locals gathered for a night of music and dancing, deepening exchange between the people of Venezuela and Japan. |
