On January 10, Peace Boat participants gathered on the front deck of the ship to watch it enter the first lock of the Panama Canal. To circumvent many of the excavation difficulties that were present during the building the building of the Suez Canal, engineers of the Panama Canal developed a system to help lift boats over shallow waters. Passing through the canal took approximately 13 hours. >>read more |
