voyage no LAST UPDATE  September 27, 2005
Peace Boat's 49th Global Voyage departed from Yokohama, Japan on May 21, 2005 and will return on August 31, 2005. Nearly 1000 participants will pass through the Suez and Panama Canals on a northern route around the world.

Themes of the voyage include studying the legacy of Japanese military aggression during the Asia-Pacific war, increasing immigration, civil society initiatives in conflict prevention, globalization in Latin America and the rights of indigenous peoples.

Here we bring regular updates from the ship reporting on activities onboard and in ports of call.

As its name implies, Peace Boat promotes peace by creating awareness and action based on effecting positive social and political change in the world. This objective is emphasized in the Global University (GU) peace studies programme, which is taught onboard each voyage. The intensive programme combines studies onboard with exchanges with local communities and NGOs in ports of call. >>read more
