Narahashi Youko is a songwriter, producer, director, and specialist in English education. Many Japanese know her as the person who taught Wantanabe Ken to speak English for his role in The Last Samurai (prior to being cast, he was not a fluent speaker of English). As a guest educator onboard Peace Boat’s 48th voyage, her main role has been a very popular series of workshops called “Communication Magic.” |

In addition to her workshops, Ms. Narahashi held an onboard audition for two movies she will be involved in over the coming months. One is a love story involving two patients in a Japanese nursing home, and the other deals with a Japanese ramen boom in Hollywood. More than one hundred people participated in the audition, which consisted of improvisational skits. Here, participants act out a scene in a nursing home. |

The skies over the Pacific Ocean have provided participants with dazzling sunrises and sunsets, as well as a wide variety of cloud formations. These cumulus clouds were spotted just before sunset by a group of interested passengers. |

Guest Educator Dror Sinai’s drumming workshops continue to be a popular activity for those onboard. Here, he instructs participants in the jambe, a traditional African drum. Many participants purchased jambe in Africa and have been eager to learn how to play their new instruments. Mr. Sinai’s workshops are geared for drummers of all levels, and his easy-going manner encourages his pupils to try new things and expand their skills. |

Two days before arriving in Tahiti, the Global English/Espanol Training (GET) programme held its GET Olympics. On this sunny morning, GET students participated in a series of language-related events on Peace Boat’s top deck and competed for first prize. Here, GET teacher Terri Jaroszewski oversees students in one of the events. |
