Departing Yokohama on February 2, 2005, and returning on May 18, 2005, Peace Boat's 48th Global Voyage links the northern and southern hemispheres on a 105 day peace education journey of discovery. Passing through both the Suez and Panama Canals, we will be visiting 17 countries and meeting with local people from all walks of life. Participants will engage in a wide range of educational and exchange programmes, onboard and in port, with the theme 'Creating a Culture of Sustainable Peace' helping to shape the voyage experience.

Opportunities to promote historical understanding, region cooperation and friendship in East Asia will be found when we call to Shanghai and share in the excitement leading up to Chinese New Year, as well as in Da Nang when we will help co-organize a cultural exchange festival with Vietnamese youth. As the ship travels to Egypt and Libya, we will explore perspectives from the Arab world on contemporary events, and the status of the Middle East peace process. In the EU countries of Italy, France and Spain, focus will be on challenges of international migration, human trafficking and asylum informed by viewpoints from the Global South and North.

With over 50 guest educators joining the voyage at different times to share their expertise, talents and experiences with everyone onboard, time spent at sea promises to be lively and varied. As we cross the Pacific Ocean, we will discover the experiences and history of indigenous peoples from all over Polynesia including Rapa Nui, Tahiti and Hawai'i. Onboard seminars and workshops will focus on decolonization and denuclearization of the Pacific region, amongst other issues, while exposure tours will help bring alive the culture, identity and reality of local communities in each Island state.
