Peace Boat staff Hazuki Yasuhara panel member at 58th DPI/NGO Conference
at the UN
The 58th Annual DPI/NGO conference "Our Challenge: Voices for Peace, Partnership and Renewal" was held at the UN from September 7-9, 2005. Three thousand four hundred NGO representatives from across the world gathered 3400, for a total of eight plenary sessions and 30 interactive sessions. This conference was the final NGO gathering before NGOs are excluded from the UN building for the duration of the Millennium +5 Summit, and as such was the stage for heated debate on the Millennium Development Goals, and the issues of UN reform.
As part of the panel "Collective Security: The Priorities of Civil Society", Hazuki's speech focused on the need to bring a human security perspective to all measures to be taken by international actors, and on the principle of Article Nine of the Japanese constitution.
