Peace Boat Receives Global Peace and Justice Award |

Le Ly Hayslip, activist and author, and subject of Oliver Stone's "Heaven
and Earth," awarded Peace Boat the Global Peace and Justice Award at the
Bridge of Peace Awards ceremony on March 12, 2005, held in Los Angeles.
The now annual awards ceremony, organized by the Global Village
Foundation, founded by Le Ly and Chaired by Oliver Stone, awarded five
Bridge of Peace Awards recognizing leading humanitarian, justice and
peace-building individuals and organizations. The other winners on this
night were Viet Nam veteran and activist Ron Kovic, aid worker June
Pulcini, Buddhist monk and non-violence practitioner the Venerable
Madoluvawe Sobhita Thera and Muslim chaplain Sister Shamshad Sheik.
Receiving the Global Peace and Justice Award is an incredible honor, especially amongst the company of the other winners that night. Staff member Ai Onodera attended the ceremony, and took the pportunity to introduce Peace Boat activities to a US audience, helping to build important new links with people in the US. Peace Boat has had a long working relationship with Le Ly Hayslip in organizing its activities in Viet Nam, and would like to thank her for the honour of this award. |
