December 9, 2004 Emergency protest response to Japanese Government’s Decision to Extend SDF Deployment
Peace Boat protests outside Prime Minister Koizumi’s Office
Following the Japanese Government’s decision on the afternoon of December 9 to approve the extension of the Self-Defense Forces’ deployment in Iraq, Peace Boat led an emergency protest outside the office of Prime Minister Koizumi Junichiro.

A statement condemning the decision, and urging the withdrawal of SDF troops from the country by December 14, 2004 – the date originally set for the end of the deployment – was handed in to the Prime Minister’s Office.

Peace Boat will be joining a protest event as part of the World Peace Now coalition on December 14, 2004 at the Hibiya outdoor concert hall (Hibiya Yagai Ongaku-dou: nearest subway station, Kokkai-gijido Mae) starting 6:30pm which will include live music, and culminate in a evening protest parade.
