| Peace Boat volunteers appeal on the streets of Tokyo |
More than 600 Iraqi civilians, including many women and children, have been killed and over 1000 wounded due to the offensive launched by the United States' troops in Falluja. According to local information sources, medical facilities are inadequate and the need for medical supplies is urgent. With the hope that as many lives as possible can be saved, Peace Boat is sending out an appeal to the wider community in Japan to donate funds in order that medical supplies can be purchased and delivered to the victims with the help of local doctors. Peace Boat staff and volunteers will be collecting street donations throughout Tokyo and other Japanese cities until May 7, 2004. If you are in Japan, and wish to make a financial contribution, please call Peace Boat at the number below for details. |

Public announcement in Iraqi newspaper from the people of Japan
Peace Boat, together with a coalition of organisations and individuals, will shortly be placing a public announcement in a major Iraqi newspaper to thank members of the Association of Muslim Scholars, the Arab-language media and the many Iraqi citizens whose actions and support contributed to the release of the Japanese hostages in Iraq.
The announcement, while protesting the spate of bombings, abductions, and violence in Iraq, will also strongly condemn the Occupation of Iraq and in particular the actions of the United States' troops in Falluja. It will call for the withdrawal of Japan's Self-Defense Forces from Iraq. |
