Emergency Protest Gathering at the Israeli Embassy: Peace for Palestine and Israel |
In response to the assassination of Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, a coalition of concerned groups and individuals, including Peace Boat, gathered at the Israeli Embassy in Tokyo to protest the Israeli government's inflammatory policies, demand the withdrawal of Israeli troops from the West Bank and Gaza and an end to the Occupation. The protest also called for an end to all use of violence in the region, including by Palestinian groups.
Around 250 people attended the candlelight protest and, despite a heavy police presence that only allowed 30 people at a time to approach the Embassy gates, speeches were delivered successfully. Seventeen organisation participated, including ATTAC Japan, CHANCE!pono2, Global Peace Campaign, Palestinian Children's Campaign, and Stop Revision of the Constitution Campaign.
