Peace Boat mobilizes against Israel's construction of "Apartheid Wall" in the West Bank |
| Peace Boat, together with a coalition of ten other Japanese NGOs will organise a rally this Friday November 21, as part of the global movement to put an end to the "Apartheid Wall" currently being built in the West Bank Occupied Territories. The twilight rally, to be held from 6:00pm - 8:30pm in Ikebukuro Nishiguchi Koen, Tokyo will feature video presentations, speakers, performances and messages from Palestinians and Israelis against the devastating effects of the Wall as well as their calls for a just peace. |

Facts about the Wall:
The so-called "Security Fence" is, for the most part, an 8-metre-high concrete wall that cuts deep into the West Bank. It is effectively isolating town from town, family from family, farmers from their land and source of livelihood. The projected path of the wall and its "buffer zone" will see Israel illegally annex close to half the land in the West Bank including vast tracts of agricultural land as well as the majority of its water resources. If the four stages of the Wall are completed as planned, the barricade will exceed 600km in length and will divide the West Bank into four "cantons" controlled by Israeli military checkpoints, making the creation of a viable Palestinian state impossible. Far from bringing security, the Wall will cause further suffering and hardship for Palestinian people and create a breeding ground for fear and hatred, with the likely outcome being an escalation in the level of violence - not peace and security as the Israeli government claims. |
