Horizon 2012 is a creative and comprehensive program of multi-track strategy-building, advocacy and diplomacy in the Middle East that seeks to build upon the decision by the 2010 NPT Review Conference to convene an international conference in 2012 on the establishment of a Middle East zone free of nuclear weapons and all other weapons of mass destruction, through building confidence and understanding within the region of the value of such a conference and the concrete possibilities and benefits offered by a future Middle East Zone Free of Nuclear Weapons and All Other Weapons of Mass Destruction (MENWMDFZ).

Disarmament for Development

Peace Boat's Disarmament for Development education and advocacy campaign is based on the much-neglected Article 26 of the UN Charter that calls for the establishment of a system of regulation of armaments with the least diversion of the world human and economic resources for armaments in order to promote the establishment and maintenance of international peace and security. Through the participation in and organization of public events, conferences and workshops, Peace Boat educates people on the impact that a shift in the allocation of resources would have, namely a decrease of military expenditures and the reallocation of funds to eradicate poverty and invest in sustainable development and human security.
